Who I Am
Rita Maranda Brown has been collecting sea shells & art since she was a young child. Having grandparents with a cottage by the sea led to her early inspiration. Her mother was an artist and lover of life from an Island off of Georgia. And her father was from Cuba and was a writer and philosopher of life’s lessons.
At home Rita resides on Blueberry Lake in Warren, Vermont where she observes nesting blue herons & migrating geese. She also spends several months each year by the sea shore on both East and West coasts. For Rita, time at these shores is a gift and a blessing.
Each shell she uses for her art was collected on the beach by Rita and artistically crafted to be a unique treasure for any shell lover. Rita’s LOVE of nature shines through in her shell artistry.

How I Make RiShells
These RiShells are a labor of LOVE . Each one requires time and patience while waiting in between steps. I have enjoyed gathering these shells
by the Atlantic Ocean over the years and transforming them into Art for you.
I gather large, Atlantic clam shells at the beach. Then, I clean and dry them well to prepare them for decorating. Then I prepare the inside of shell with non-toxic white primer. Then I get creative and select a design for the shell and cut it to size. Then I apply a non-toxic adhesive to inside of shell and gently apply the design on inside of shell and trim the excess off. Next I apply a layer of non-toxic finish over the design and let it dry. Finally, I use a pumice-type sander to make the edges smooth and apply gold paint to make a gilded edge and let that do a final dry. The final touch is I apply my signature faux pearl with clear glue and the RiShell is ready for your home or office.
I so enjoy making these and each has it’s own unique design and shape provided by nature.
